Svetislav Pesic's Bayern side went into Group C clash with a 1-6 record, one win fewer than Milano.
It
appeared as though they would take the match into overtime when the
scores were locked at 81- 81, but with the clock ticking down towards
the buzzer Hackett netted a two-point jump shot with fewer than three
seconds remaining to break Bayern hearts.
The
German side, who led at the end of the second and third quarters, were
outscored 24-21 in the fourth and with just two group games remaining
their prospects of making the Top 16 now appear extremely bleak.
For Milano the picture looks a lot better and they are primed to clinch the fourth and final qualifying spot from the group.
Hackett
was the star for the hosts at the Mediolanum Forum, the point guard
finishing with 25 points and three assists in just over 30 minutes of
court time.
Heiko Schaffartzik top scored for Bayern with 15 points, while Dusko Savanovic and John Bryant reached double figures.
Bayern
led by a solitary point after a tight first half and the advantage
remained intact by the end of a back-and-forth third quarter.
The
tense nature of the contest continued into the final quarter, but the
home side looked like they would move clear when they earned a
four-point advantage in the closing stages.
Bayern
refused to give up the fight, though, and overtime looked on the cards
when they levelled at 81-81, only for Hackett to have the last say -
sparking jubilant scenes on the home bench.
