NSS Boss Recieves Award

The Executive Director of the Ghana National Service Scheme (GNSS), Alhaji Alhassan Imoro, has received a prestigious Nobles International Award of honour, integrity and accountability from the West Africa Nobles Forum (WANF) at its 19th conference held in Accra.

It was under the chairmanship of Prof Kofi Oduro-Afriyie, the Vice Chancellor of Wisconsin International University College.

Alhaji Imoro was one of 29 selected individuals from public and private institutions in Ghana and Nigeria who were the recipients of the prestigious awards. The award comprised of a citation, a certificate, a Golden Award plaque, and an automatic membership of the forum.

The West Africa Nobles Forum, a group of eminent West Africans, is a non-governmental, nonreligious and non-profit making organization with its headquarters in Accra and a membership of over 1,000.

In a brief citation, the Forum recognized Alhaji Alhassan Imoro as a distinguished hard-working personality, having worked with the Ghana National Service Scheme (GNSS) for the past 24 years and is the first permanent staff of the Scheme to rise from the post of a District Director through the ranks to become the Executive Director.

It said Alhaji Imoro was promoted and appointed the Northern Regional Director of the Scheme, a position he held until 2003 when he was again promoted and transferred to the Head Office as the Director, Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Posting (PPME&P). He was subsequently appointed the Deputy Executive Director (Finance and Administration) before being appointed the Acting Executive Director of the Scheme in April, 2013 and confirmed the substantive Executive Director in March, 2014.

Alhaji Imoro holds a Master of Arts (MA) Degree in Human Resource Planning and Development from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi, India and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Development Planning from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.

Among other things, Alhaji Imoro developed policy proposals for the establishment of the National Service Voluntary Service Programme; a policy proposal for the Graduate Entrepreneurial Skills Development for National Service Personnel and a programme implementation framework for the implementation of the government's Youth in Agriculture Programme in National Service currently manifested in the National Service Scheme's Agricultural Projects.

In a brief interview after receiving the award, Alhajia Imoro thanked the Forum for recognizing his efforts, and dedicated the award to the hard working staff of the Ghana National Service Scheme and gallant national service persons who are providing essential services to the people of Ghana in all the 10 regions of the country.
