Vlisco fashion dream fund contest is back with a bang

A brand known for influencing the fashion landscape in West and Central Africa, Vlisco is once again awarding the young fashion designers with an excellent opportunity to convert their dreams into reality through the Vlisco Fashion Dream Fund contest. The competition was commenced last year as part of the Vlisco Women’s Month campaign. It required young fashion designers in six countries to present proposals on how they plan to showcase and exhibit their brands in the coming years. Also, the participants were required to persuade the organizers on why they should be financially backed up to accomplish their dreams. Vlisco is encouraging fashion talents from Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Congo DR and Ivory Coast to place their fashion business plans online and get a chance to win some prizes.

Expressing at the inauguration of the 2014 Vlisco Women’s Month campaign lately at the Accra Mall, Rudolf van Gompel, the Executive Retail Director of the Vlisco Group conveyed that the top three winners of the pitch will get $2,500 funding plus an excellent chance to attend fashion training programmes in the Netherlands. He also mentioned that at the local level, the top three pitchers in Ghana will each get a sewing machine plus Gh¢300. Further, the Vlisco official articulated, “Young fashion designers who are nationals or residents in the six countries mentioned earlier qualify for the pitch.” Jury of renowned folks will select the winners who will be announced at a ceremony in Accra on April 5. Worth mentioning, Ghana performed the best in 2013 contest. From the over 100 proposals received, designers Kyerewa Atta– Krah of April Rust and Sheila Garbrah of She by Bena Creations, appeared as the overall winner and second runner-up, respectively.
