Tetteh Quarshie-Madina highway to be completed in 3 months

The 4.6-kilometre Tetteh- Quarshie – Atomic Junction highway in Accra is scheduled to be completed in the next three months. The highway which was supposed to have been completed a couple of years ago, had to be delayed for several months due to inadequate funding among other factors. It is, however, reassuring to hear that the project would be completed in the next three months to further ease traffic congestion on the road.

This was revealed when the President, John Mahama inspected on-going works.

According to him, government is committed to maintain and construct new roads that would become strategic throughout the country.

He said his administration had prioritized roads in his development agenda, and would also work on all feeder roads that would facilitate the movement of goods and foodstuff from farming communities to the marketing centres.

President Mahama said apart from easing traffic congestion, the expansion and construction of roads also facilitate the movement of foodstuff that had rippling effects on the prices of such commodities in the markets.

He announced that the road which was one of 'the gang of six' roads in the capital, would soon be completed, and urged the contractors working on the GIMPA- Agbogba road to expedite action to completely rid the roads of heavy and unnecessary traffic.

On foot bridges, President Mahama appealed to the contractors to come out with ones that were friendly and easy to use, in order to avoid spending heavily on long foot bridges that would not be utilized at the end.

The President appealed to drivers and pedestrians to be cautious in their movements to avoid accidents, 'since in most cases good roads bring about over speeding and in some cases carelessness and reckless driving'.

Alhaji Amidu Sulemena, Minister for Roads and Highways, explained that the road was strictly financed by the Government of Ghana, hence the delays, and gave the assurance that it would be completed in the coming weeks. He said apart from the major highway, his Ministry was also completing other roads that would help ease the perennial road congestions in the capital, and appealed to all road users to bear with the current inconvenience, which he promised would be temporary.

Alhaji Sulemena said the Community 18-Burma road was also on track, and would soon be completed and opened to the public.
