South Africa & Seychelles discuss further cooperation

Minister Marthinus Van Schalkwyk, the Minister of Tourism of South Africa, and Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, met on the sidelines of Indaba, the tourism trade fair of Africa that is held annually in Durban in South Africa.

Both ministers were accompanied by a high-level delegation from their respective countries.

South Africa and Seychelles are two countries that continue to enjoy friendly ties, and Ministers Van Schalkwyk and St.Ange used the opportunity of the Indaba meeting to review areas of cooperation between South Africa and Seychelles, and how the different joint actions undertaken between them has fared.

The historic UNWTO (UN World Tourism Organization) and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) that will be bringing together for the first time ministers of tourism and ministers of transport, was discussed as this meeting is set to be held in Seychelles. The UNWTO Commission for Africa (CAF) meeting, also in Seychelles in April 2015 at the same time as the island's annual Carnaval International de Victoria, was also discussed. South Africa, through KwaZulu Natal, was this year a co-host of the carnival in Seychelles, and the benefit of such a partnership was also discussed.

Minister Van Schalkwyk and Minister St.Ange both felt that the continued cooperation between South Africa and Seychelles needed to be further developed. The two Ministers signed a MOU a year ago paving the way for increased cooperation between South Africa and Seychelles.
