Rayon Sports sign Togo striker Zico

Rayon Sports completed the signing of Togo striker Sekle Yao Zico from Togolese league side Angeis ahead of the 2014 Cecafa Kagame Cup, which gets underway in Kigali.

The Blues, who have won the regional tournament once – in 1998 –, are in Group A, and start their campaign against Tanzanian champions Azam.
The game kicks off 3p.m at Amahoro stadium.

Zico, the fourth player to be signed by new coach Jean Francois Losciuto, penned a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee, in time for the two-week tournament.

Zico is seen as a good replacement for Cedric Amissi, who joined Mozambique’s side Chibuto FC in May.
The Nyanza-based team has also signed Congolese midfielder Gobe Muntombo from Espoir, Cameroonian Bertrand Issa from Mukura, and James Tubane from AS Kigali.

“Zico is a very good player who I know very well because I coached him at Angeis. He will be in the Cecafa squad and I hope he will bring something special to the team,” the Belgian told Times Sport.

Losciuto, who signed a oneyear contract with Rayon Sports a fortnight ago, added: “We are ready for the tournament, we have been preparing well and players are focused on the first game.”

Asked if Zico will feature in the game against Azam, he said: “I cannot tell right now because we have many good players but we will see, we hope to get a good result against Azam,” Losciuto added.

Zico said he was happy to join his new club. “I have come here to help Rayon Sports and I believe I can help the team do better, I hope to give everything I can to make the team better and we need the support of fans to achieve our goals.”

Rayon Sports are also looking to sign another midfielder from Togo, Guelli Koffi. “We are waiting for him to arrive in the country next week (on Wednesday) and then we will give full details regarding his status,” Losciuto revealed.
