The recently announced new PR and marketing campaign to create a new and better image for Tanzania’s tourism industry in key consumer markets, worth some 1.5 million US Dollars, has received broad support from stakeholders. The latest to throw their hat in the ring is Fastjet, in passenger terms now Tanzania’s largest airline. Mr. Jimmy Kibati who is heading the regional operation of Fastjet, based in Dar es Salaam, has reportedly pledged the airline’s support for the campaign, and while not making specific commitments it can be expected that the campaign will get a further boost.
Traditionally have airlines supported their respective tourism boards by availing free tickets for media and travel trade fam trips, which in the case of Fastjet extends to four domestic and four African destinations, namely Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza and Mbeya and Johannesburg, Lusaka, Harare and Entebbe, with Nairobi likely to join this list soon as bilateral talks are soon taking place.
A team of the film production company is presently in Tanzania to film at key locations the Tanzania Tourist Board wants to use to rebrand the country’s image to be shown on key media channels around the world.
Kibati is this week expected in Uganda for the formal celebration of the airline’s new route which now connects Kilimanjaro three times a week with Entebbe, adding to the existing three flights a week from Dar es Salaam to Entebbe.
